About Us

HofLabor was founded to make mosaic farming scalable. It grew out of the original pioneering farm SlowGrow . SlowGrow is an independent agricultural operation with which HofLabor works closely.

2016 - SlowGrow

Matthias experimented with mulch-based mixed cropping systems already during his apprenticeship. When he established his network under the name SlowGrow in 2016, he was cultivating approximately 2000 m².

Since 2018 - Large-scale experiments

SlowGrow takes over approximately 15 hectares of land at the Eichhof farm in Mönchaltorf. Here, the first large-scale experiments take place, providing valuable experience about what already works in regenerative agriculture and what doesn't. As a former precision mechanic, Matthias soon develops hypotheses about the machinery that would still be needed.

2021 - Mosaic farming

Petrissa joins the team, and the idea for HofLabor, an on-farm innovation project, is born. The term mosaic farming is also coined in this context.

2022 - Founding of HofLabor

Petrissa and Matthias founded HofLabor with the focus of developing and disseminating robust machines and methods. That same year, SlowGrow and HofLabor jointly won the PrixClimat. In the following years, their in-house technical developments made the methods increasingly practical and efficient. More and more research collaborations also emerged, with the aim of making the impact of mosaic farming measurable.

Since 2024 - Adlisberg as Future vision

Since spring 2024, SlowGrow and HofLabor have been jointly managing the city-owned farm on Zurich's Adlisberg. A demonstration and innovation farm is being developed there, where mosaic farming is further developed and made accessible to interested people.
